The One 2.0 Pre-Workout Review

July 19, 2016 By Editor

The One 2.0 by BPM Labs Review

The One 2.0 is the new formula of the original pre-workout by BPM Labs.

It is designed to increase strength, endurance, and focus for more effective workouts.

BPM Labs is an American-based supplement company with part UK and Australian ownership.

Ingredients Label

The One 2.0 by BPM Labs

Active Ingredients

Beta-Alanine

Beta Alanine is a beta-amino acid that increases the amount of Carnosine in muscle.

Carnosine reduces acid build-up and free radicals from exercise, which prevents muscle fatigue. This lets you work out harder for longer (1).

The recommended daily dose is in the range of 2-5g.

Creatine

The One 2.0 uses a blend of different creatine compounds.

Creatine is a great muscle cell volumiser (2) and increases power output and performance through the increased production of ATP – our body’s energy source (3).

The multiple forms of creatine used here are likely unnecessary, since no other form has been proven to be cheaper or more effective than Creatine Monohydrate.

An effective dose is 3-5g daily.

L-Arginine

As with creatine, BPM Labs have used multiple forms of Arginine.

Arginine is a Nitric Oxide supplement that contributes to improved pumps and endurance through the dilation of blood vessels (4). The AKG version is better-absorbed (5), however the malate form should also be effective.

The optimal dose of L-Arginine is 3-6g.

Nandina Domestica Extract

Nandina Domestica is a fruit-tree that contains a compound called Higenamine.

This compound has been reported to have similar effects to Ephedrine, which has fat-burning properties. Higenamine might be a good alternative since Ephedrine is currently highly regulated in Australia and NZ.

Studies still need to be done in humans, but an effective dose may be 20-30mg taken 2-3 times daily.

Eria Jarensis Extract

Eria Jarensis is a plant in the Orchid family. Its extract contains a compound called N-Phenyldimethylamine, that may have similar effects to PEA (mood-booster) and DMAA (banned amphetamine derivative).

This substance is new and very under-researched, and may be quite strong. Caution should be exercised as it could be dangerous, especially when paired with other stimulants.

Naringin

Naringin is a flavonoid extracted from the inner peel of grapefruit and some other citrus fruits.

It hinders the regulation of the metabolism of some medications and supplements, allowing more of other ingredients to be absorbed than usual (6).

It is believed to enhance the fat-burning effects of caffeine and some other compounds.

An optimal dose has not yet been established.

Bitter Orange Peel Extract

Bitter Orange is a pomelo/mandarin hybrid, whose extract is used to aid weight-loss and suppress appetite.

Studies have shown it to increase resting metabolic rate and energy expenditure. Results were best seen over 6-12 weeks of supplementation (7).

Who Takes It?

This product is suited toward those who are seeking to improve the intensity and duration of their workouts.

It is lower in traditional stimulants than other pre-workouts, however the Eria Jarensis Extract may make up for this.

How to Take

Begin by taking a half-scoop with 150-200mL of water. Stir sufficiently and consume on an empty stomach 40 minutes before your workout, to assess tolerance.

Standard serving: Add 1 scoop to 350ml-500ml of water 30-45 minutes before your workout.

Do not take within 5 hours of sleeping, or use any more than 1 scoop in a 24-hour time period.

Side Effects

You may feel a tingling sensation throughout your body from Beta-Alanine.

Bitter orange may have serious drug interactions in a similar way to grapefruit.

Eria Jarensis Extract may increase blood pressure significantly, in a similar fashion to the now-banned substance DMAA.

Many of the less-researched ingredients may have unknown side effects. Stop supplementation immediately if you experience anything unusual.

Pros

  • Likely to be effective, using tried-and-tested ingredients like Creatine, Beta-Alanine, and L-Arginine
  • Lesser-known ingredients with good potential are also used
  • A variety of flavours are available to suit your taste: Green Apple, Watermelon, and Pineapple

Cons

  • The less-studied ingredients may have unknown side effects or may even be ineffective
  • Some of the ingredients seem more suitable for fat-burning than a pre-workout formula

Conclusion

BPM Labs has yet another innovative product with The One 2.0, stacking proven ingredients with new and promising ones.

Some of the ingredients seem to have more fat burning properties than workout-enhancing effects, however the main ingredients get the job done.

We recommend you try this supplement with caution, starting with a low dosage, and stopping immediately if there are any adverse side effects.
