NooWave POWR Review

August 25, 2017 By Editor

POWR is a pre-workout made by NooWave.

It’s designed to improve performance, energy, and focus, for better workouts.

NooWave is an American company, which produces supplements with both mental and physical benefits.

Ingredients Label

Active Ingredients

Coconut Water Concentrate

Coconut water is a great source of electrolytes.

It’s been shown to be very effective for boosting rehydration after exercise (1, 2).

Creatine Monohydrate

Creatine is a naturally-occurring acid found in animal products.

Supplementing with it increases both power output and endurance (3, 4).

An effective dose is 3-5g, taken daily.

Beta Alanine

Beta alanine is a beta-amino acid which can reduce fatigue.

It works by helping the body create more carnosine – a compound which combats acid and free-radical build-up from exercise (5).

The recommended dose is 2-5g.

Betaine

Betaine is a compound found in sugar beets.

Research has shown it can improve power output, and possibly body composition too (6).

An effective dose is around 2500mg.

Tyrosine

Tyrosine is an amino acid with anti-stress properties.

It improves mood and concentration in fatigued people, by reducing the production of stress hormones (7).

The effective dose is 500-2,000mg.

Alpha GPC

Alpha GPC is a form of choline, a vitamin that helps with brain function.

As well as helping you mentally, the GPC form of choline can also increase power output (8).

The effective dose is 600mg.

Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant that increases alertness, and also athletic performance at higher doses (9).

An effective dose is usually between 200-500mg.

Eria Jarensis

Eria Jarensis is a plant in the orchid family.

It contains a compound called n-phenyldimethylamine, which is reported to have similar effects to two other well-known compounds: a mood-booster called PEA, and the now-banned stimulant DMAA.

Only a small amount of research has been done on this ingredient, so the effects and side-effects are unconfirmed.

DMHA

DMHA is another compound with similar effects and structure to DMAA.

Like the Eria Jarensis extract above, it is not well-studied yet.

Huperzine-A

Huperzine-A is a nootropic compound that improves cognition and mental energy (10, 11).

An effective dose is 50-200 micrograms.

Who Takes It?

Athletes wanting a strong stimulant kick, as well as improved workout performance, will enjoy using POWR.

How to Take

Mix 1 scoop (16g) with 250-350mL water, and consume 30 minutes before working out.

Side Effects

Some of the ingredients in POWR resemble the banned substance DMAA, and could have potentially dangerous side effects.

Creatine can increase water retention in the muscles, and may cause stomach cramps if not taken with enough water.

Do not take POWR with any other caffeinated or stimulant-containing beverages or supplements.

Pros

  • A ton of mood and focus-enhancing compounds
  • Strong stimulant effects
  • Solid doses of performance-boosting ingredients

Cons

  • May have dangerous, unknown side-effects
  • No pump ingredients
  • Only one flavor option

Conclusion

POWR is a high-stimulant pre-workout made for those who seek a big boost in energy, mood and focus.

It’s a bold formula which uses two alternatives to the banned stimulant, DMAA, which could be super-effective, but also somewhat dangerous.

The majority of performance-boosting ingredients are included at clinically-effective doses, which is great.

POWR lacks ingredients that help with the “pump”, but is designed to be paired with their other pre-workout SWELL, which excels in that area.
