OxyShred Review

July 31, 2016 By Editor

Oxy Shred by EHP Labs

Oxyshred is a fat burner made by EHP Labs.

It’s made to work alongside a healthy diet to burn fat, by increasing metabolic rate and fat oxidation, while enhancing mood and suppressing appetite.

EHP Labs is a relatively new American supplement company founded in Utah.

EHP Labs Oxyshred

Active Ingredients

Acetyl-L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine is an amino-acid derivative that is used in energy metabolism.

It’s not very effective for fat burning except in those who are deficient. However in healthy individuals, it increases insulin sensitivity and lowers blood glucose levels, which is great for increasing lean mass (1).

The standard daily dose is between 500-2,000mg.

L-Tyrosine

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that decreases stress hormone production, and improves both mood and performance under stressful conditions (2).

It is sometimes used to reduce jitters caused by Caffeine.

A standard dose is 500-2,000mg, taken 30-60 minutes before performance.

Raspberry Ketone

Raspberry Ketone is a compound used in foods and cosmetics for scent and flavouring.

It’s been shown to have fat-burning effects in both lab and rat studies, but not yet in humans.

The estimated effective dose is 870-6,200mg.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit Seed Extract contains “bioactive” compounds. Some of these limit the regulation of the metabolism of other compounds, such as caffeine.

This allows better absorption than the body would usually allow (3).

Guggulsterone

Guggulsterone is a compound extracted from the Guggul tree, found in North Africa and Asia.

It’s been shown to increase thyroid function in rats, which could increase metabolism and fat loss (4).

More studies need to be done in humans to prove this.

African Mango

Irvingia Gabonensis is a supplement extracted from the seeds of a plant called African Mango.

Studies have shown that it contributes to weight loss, however this is due to the blunting of hunger (reducing food intake) rather than direct fat-burning effects (5).

150-3,200mg of extract appears to be an effective dose.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

Green Coffee Bean Extract is a source of Chlorogenic Acid, which has shown to improve heart health and promote fat loss (6).

The recommended dosage is 240-3,000mg, depending on the strength of the extract.

Higenamine HCL

Higenamine is a compound extracted from the Nandina fruit tree. It has been reported to be similar to Ephedrine, which has fat-burning properties.

Higenamine may be a good alternative to Ephedrine, since it is highly regulated in Australia and NZ.

Studies still need to be done in humans, but an effective dose is estimated at 20-30mg taken 2-3 times daily.

Inulin Fibre

Inulin is a soluble plant fibre found in a variety of food sources such as wheat, onions, and bananas.

Although it is not a direct fat burner, it helps to suppress appetite (7) and boosts heart health (8).

Caffeine

Caffeine increases power output and metabolic rate, energising your workout while burning extra fat (9, 10).

An effective dose is about 200-500mg, but can vary greatly from person to person.

Taurine

Taurine is an amino acid shown to have a similar effect to Creatine.

It can increase cell volume and nutrient uptake in skeletal muscle, and may also reduce any cramping caused by fat burners.

An effective dose is about 1g daily.

CLA

Conjugated Linoleic Acids are fatty acids that may increase fat oxidation, without a change in metabolic rate (11).

An effective dose is 3,200-6,400mg daily, taken with food.

Who Takes It?

OxyShred is suited towards anyone wishing to improve their fat loss, mood, or workout quality while dieting.

How to Take

Mix 1 scoop with 300mL of water, and consume on an empty stomach.

For best results take 1 scoop twice daily, and take one of these servings 15 minutes before working out.

Side Effects

Guggulsterone may cause skin reactions.

Higenamine has been reported to have similar effects to Ephedrine, and might have similar side effects. These include palpitations, sweating, or nausea.

Grapefruit Seed Extract may have serious drug interactions – don’t take OxyShred with any medications without speaking with your doctor first.

Some of the lesser-known ingredients may have unknown side effects. Stop supplementation immediately if you experience anything unusual.

Pros

  • OxyShred covers all the bases with a wide range of ingredients that oxidise fat, improve mood, suppress appetite, and boost metabolism.
  • Extra vitamins and antioxidants for general health.
  • 6 flavours available to suit everyone’s taste.

Cons

  • Some of the ingredients are not well-researched, and others may not be present in large enough quantities to be effective.

Conclusion

EHP Labs uses a range of ingredients in OxyShred to burn fat, suppress hunger and improve mood.

Although some of the ingredients are under-researched, it has plenty of the classic proven ingredients that get the job done.
