True-Mass Review

True-Mass is a mass-gainer protein supplement made by BSN.

It’s designed to assist with increases in muscle mass and strength, for those who have difficulty gaining weight.

BSN is a supplement company based in Florida, USA.

Ingredients Label

Active Ingredients

Whey Protein

Whey is the primary protein found in milk, and perhaps the most popular protein source for bodybuilding.

It’s been shown to be fast-digesting and excellent for improving rates of muscle development (1).

Casein Protein

Casein is also a milk protein, but is much slower-digesting than whey.

It has also been shown by research to be great for aiding muscle growth and recovery (2).

Egg White Protein

Egg protein is another muscle-promoting protein, which has an absorption rate between those of whey and casein.

It’s included here for its “medium-speed” absorption – digested slower than whey, but faster than casein.

Maltodextrin

Maltodextrin is a quick-releasing carbohydrate.

It’s great for spiking insulin, but is not ideal to consume in large quantities like it’s

Medium Chain Triglycerides

Medium chain triglycerides, also known as MCTs, are a special type of fat found in coconut oil.

MCTs have been shown to suppress appetite and promote fat-loss (3).

Who Takes It?

Athletes wanting assistance to gain weight may enjoy using True-Mass.

How to Take

Mix 3 rounded scoops (165g) with 500mL of water or milk, and consume post-workout or as desired.

Side Effects

Excess protein consumption may worsen an existing liver or kidney condition.

Maltodextrin is a high-GI carbohydrate, and isn’t ideal for diabetics in the quantities included here.

Pros

  • Multiple sources of protein, which absorb at different rates
  • Healthy fats (MCTs) included
  • Wide range of flavours to choose from.

Cons

  • High in unhealthy carbohydrates
  • Only 16 servings per tub.

Conclusion

True-Mass is a mass gainer protein which is built on a solid base of varied protein sources and healthy fats.

The primary carbohydrate source, however, is cheap maltodextrin powder, which is known to be very high-GI. This is not great for health or results, and can tremendously spike blood sugar levels.

You can expect a good boost to calorie and protein intake which will help with gaining mass, however it may not be the healthiest option for doing so.
