Delicious Protein Review

Delicious Protein is a post-workout protein powder by Giant Sports.

It’s designed to aid the recovery process by providing a quick source of protein, as well as some extra ingredients such as BCAAs, Betaine and Creatine.

Giant Sports is an American supplement manufacturer that offers quite innovative products, trying to improve what’s already available on the shelves.

Whey Protein

Whey Protein is one of the two proteins found in milk. It is the fastest absorbed and notably increases muscle protein synthesis (1). This makes it perfect for post-workout consumption and general bodybuilding supplementation.

A combination of Isolate and Concentrate makes it lower in carbs and fats, and higher in protein content than a 100% Concentrate formula.

BCAAs

BCAAs refers to  branch chain amino acids.

They can decrease muscle-wasting cortisol levels after a workout, and rapidly replace BCAA levels in muscle for quick growth and repair (2).

Digestive Enzymes

Protease and Lactase are molecules that help our bodies break down and absorb food. Protease helps in the digestion of proteins, while lactase helps with lactose.

In theory, it should be useful to add Protease to this formula. But the mechanism however is unknown, and it is argued that when taken orally, stomach acid breaks it down before it has a chance to work.

Lactase, however, may be useful for easing the digestion of the lactose.

Betaine

Betaine has shown potential to improve body composition and increase workout capacity (3, 4).

The effective dosage is about 2.5-6g daily, taken in two separate doses.

Creatine

Creatine is an organic acid that increases the production of energy (ATP) in skeletal muscle, resulting in increases both power output (5) and endurance (6).

Who Takes It?

COR-Performance Whey is aimed towards all athletes seeking a post-workout protein supplement, to assist with muscle recovery and growth.

How to Take

Mix 1 level scoop with 500mL of water or milk, and consume after exercise, or as a meal replacement.

Side Effects

Whey protein can sometimes worsen existing kidney or liver damage. Exercise caution if you already have kidney or liver conditions.

Pros

  • Delicious Protein contains several extra ingredients that improve both recovery and results. These may or may not be beneficial depending on the doses used (not disclosed).
  • The flavours have a great reputation as being some of the best-tasting on the market.

Cons

  • Controversy arose in 2014 concerning the true protein content of Delicious Protein, and it has not yet been cleared up if this has been amended or not.

Conclusion

Delicious Protein appears to be a good formula with a bunch of useful extras in each scoop.

Due to the protein content scandal, however, you may wish to steer clear of Delicious Protein until this had been addressed.
