Active Ingredients
Betaine
Trimethylglycine, better known as betaine, is a compound found naturally in sugar beets.
It’s shown promise for increasing power output, as well as possible improvements to body composition (1).
An effective dose is 2.5g.
Agmatine
Agmatine is a nitric oxide booster.
Increasing levels of nitric oxide can improve pumps and endurance, by widening the blood vessels and improving blood flow (2).
It may also improve mood and reduce stress.
Caffeine
The popular stimulant caffeine is well-known for improving energy and alertness.
At higher doses, it may also improve athletic performance (3).
Effective doses vary with the user.
Norvaline
Norvaline is a compound which stops nitric oxide boosters from breaking down.
This can make pump effects from other ingredients last longer (4).
Dynamine™ and Teacrine™
Dynamine™ and Teacrine™ are both trademarked forms of caffeine derivatives.
They both act in a similar way to caffeine, but last for different lengths of time in the body.
Who Takes It?
Athletes wanting to improve their workout quality and performance may benefit from using Amped.
How to Take
Mix 1 scoop (5g) with 250mL water, and consume 20 minutes before working out.
Side Effects
This formula contains stimulants which could trigger rapid or irregular heartbeat if taken above the recommended dose.
Pros
- High stimulant for increased energy
- Mixture of caffeine and newer stimulants
- Norvaline for longer pump effects.
Cons
- Only a few ingredients aside from stimulants
- Low doses of agmatine and betaine.
Conclusion
Amped looks like a great pre-workout in terms of improving energy and motivation.
When you look at the rest of the ingredients, however, there isn’t much to get excited about for other effects. The dose of agmatine is adequate but less than most supplements, and the amount of betaine included is only a fraction of the effective dose.
You can expect an increase to energy and perhaps pumps, but not much else.
