Pathogen Review

November 13, 2017 By Editor

Pathogen Review

Pathogen is a pre-workout product made by Outbreak Nutrition.

It’s a high-stimulant formula, designed to improve energy and workout quality.

Outbreak Nutrition are an American fitness brand, which specialise in supplements and apparel.

Ingredients Label

Active Ingredients

Citrulline Malate

Citrulline is a nitric-oxide booster.

Increasing nitric oxide levels enhances endurance and pumps by dilating blood vessels.

This can improve blood flow and shorten recovery time (1).

An effective dose is about 6-8g.

Beta Alanine

Beta alanine is an endurance-enhancing compound.

It fights off fatigue by counteracting the accumulation of acid and free-radicals which is caused by intense exercise (2).

The effective dose is 2-5g.

Agmatine

In a similar way to citrulline, agmatine also raises nitric oxide levels (3).

It may also have positive effects on mood, which are currently being researched.

Choline Bitartrate

Choline is a vitamin which improves brain function (4).

Bitartrate may not be as effective as other forms.

Caffeine

Caffeine is great at increasing energy levels, alertness, and even physical performance (5).

The effective dose varies with the user.

Theacrine

Theacrine is a stimulant which provides similar effects to caffeine (6).

It may be faster-acting than caffeine, but with shorter-lasting effects.

Theobromine

Theobromine is a compound found in cocoa.

Research shows that it improves mental performance and mood (7, 8).

Juglans Regia

Juglans Regia is the scientific name for the English Walnut tree.

It’s a natural source of a compound called DMHA, which is a strong stimulant and mood-booster.

More research is needed to determine its safety.

Who Takes It?

Athletes wanting a strong energy and performance boost for their workouts will enjoy using Pathogen.

How to Take

Mix 1 scoop (11.8) with 250mL water, and consume 20 minutes before your workout.

Side Effects

The doses of stimulants in Pathogen may elevate heart rate and/or blood pressure, and should be used with caution.

Juglans Regia extract contains DMHA, which may have side effects similar to those found with DMAA (banned substance).

Beta alanine can cause a harmless tingling sensation in the hands and face.

Pros

  • Massive stimulant kick from multiple ingredients
  • Endurance-increasing ingredients.

Cons

  • Too big a stimulant dose for some people
  • Expensive.

Conclusion

Pathogen is a very high-stimulant formula which should be great for boosting energy and mood.

The high doses of caffeine, theacrine, and Juglans Regia extract should be plenty to please all stimulant-lovers.

It also contains a bunch of ingredients for endurance and pumps – facilitating longer and more intense workouts.

The price is a little on the expensive side, but nothing out of the ordinary for a supplement with this many ingredients at full doses.
