Platinum Multivitamin Review

Platinum Multivitamin is a multivitamin supplement made by MuscleTech.

It’s designed to provide a daily dose of vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, to improve general health in athletes.

MuscleTech is a best-selling supplement company, which was founded in 1995.

Ingredients Label

Active Ingredients

Vitamins & Minerals

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is vital to the health of the skin, eyes, bones, and immune system (1).

Platinum Mulitvitamin contains two forms of vitamin A, Retinyl acetate and beta-carotene.

Retinyl acetate is a naturally-occurring form, while beta-carotene is actually a precursor to vitamin A found in plant-based foods.

The body can convert beta-carotene into vitamin A as it requires, on demand.

B Vitamins

The B vitamin group contains a range of vitamins which are important in metabolism.

Each B vitamin has unique benefits, and they often work together to keep your body running smoothly.

Supplementing with B vitamins can improve energy levels, mood, immunity, and growth.

Vitamin C

Vitmain C is famous for a good reason – it’s been shown to have a bunch of benefits such as antioxidant properties, increased immunity, blood flow, mood, and even testosterone.

Studies show that you’re much less likely to catch a cold as an athlete if you’re supplementing with 200mg of vitamin C per day (2).

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is fat-soluble vitamin that humans produce naturally via sunlight exposure.

Lack of sunlight exposure in winter can cause widespread vitamin D deficiency, which makes it a crucial time to supplement with oral vitamin D.

This can greatly benefit immunity, bone health, mood, and testosterone levels.

Vitamin E

Like vitamin C, vitamin E also has antioxidant effects.

It counteracts free-radicals, promotes healthy cholesterol levels, and boosts immunity and skin health (3).

There is often enough vitamin E in a regular diet, but higher doses have been shown to improve immunity in older people.

Calcium

Calcium is well known for its role in bone health.

It is found most commonly in vegetables and dairy products.

Magnesium

Magnesium deficiency is very common in the modern world.

It’s important for blood pressure, insulin sensitivity, and can also benefit athletic performance (4).

Zinc

Zinc deficiency is also a common one in the western diet.

It’s vital for testosterone production, and is even more important for athletes who rapidly lose zinc via sweating (5).

The recommended dose is 15mg per day.

Copper

Copper has a bunch of positive effects on immunity, bone and cardiovascular health, and oxygen delivery around the body (6).

Athletes and people who consume a lot of zinc are likely have low copper levels.

Manganese

Managanese has a variety of roles, including producing collagen and testosterone (7).

It can also regulate blood sugar levels and eliminate free-radicals.

Molybdenum

Molybdenum may play a vital role in energy production and kidney health.

Although it’s an essential mineral, deficiency in molybdenum is uncommon.

Potassium

Many people are deficient in the electrolyte, potassium.

It’s important for good nerve and muscle function, especially in athletes (8).

Amino Support Matrix

This matrix contains a bunch of amino acids that are often found in a bunch of fitness supplements, which can be beneficial to nutrient delivery, nitric oxide levels, and general performance.

Unfortunately, most (if not all) of these are added in almost negligible doses, which are unlikely to have any noticeable effects.

Herbal Matrix

Similar to the amino support matrix above, most of the ingredients in this matrix are present in very small doses, which will have minimal effects.

If dosed adequately, these ingredients would improve immunity, cognitive performance, and testosterone levels.

Enzyme Complex

These enzymes are useful for assisting the breakdown and digestion of food.

Amylase helps with the breakdown of starch into sugars, whereas papain is useful for breaking down the proteins in meat.

Mineral Support Complex

Boron

Boron is a mineral that may improve levels of free testosterone (9).

Choline and Inositol

Choline and inositol are known to help with the breakdown of fats, and choline also has positive effects on cognitive performance.

Both of these, however, are dosed too low to be of benefit.

Who Takes It?

Athletes wanting a multivitamin to assist with general health may benefit from using Platinum Multivitamin.

How to Take

Take 3 capsules daily, with food.

Side Effects

There are no major side effects associated with the ingredients and doses used in this supplement.

Pros

  • Recommended daily intake provided for a range of vitamins and minerals
  • Contains extra ingredients for testosterone and athletic performance.

Cons

  • Most of the extra ingredients are not provided at the appropriate doses, and would have little to no effect
  • Some of the ingredients are included in poorly-absorbed forms.

Conclusion

Platinum Multivitamin appears to be more than your average multivitamin supplement, but in reality it may only provide basic benefits.

It covers the fundamentals by providing great doses of most major vitamins and minerals, however many of these are in suboptimal forms which are poorly absorbed.

The extra herbal and amino complexes look good at first glance, but it can be quickly seen that most of these ingredients are included in poor quantities that have no real benefit.

You may get better value for money with another multivitamin.
