100% Mass Review

100% Mass is a mass-gainer protein made by Pure Supps.

It’s designed to assist in with weight gain, by providing a source of protein and extra calories.

Pure Supps are well-known for their simple, cost-effective products. They are Australian-owned and based.

Ingredients Label

Active Ingredients

Maltodextrin

Maltodextrin is a high-GI carbohydrate powder, made from processed plant starch.

It’s quickly absorbed, which makes it good to take in small amounts with protein after a workout.

However, it isn’t great to consume in large amounts – especially if you’re a diabetic.

Whey Protein

Whey is the fast-absorbing protein in milk, and has been shown to significantly boost muscle growth and repair (1).

It’s great for consumption post-workout.

Casein Protein

Casein is the other protein found in milk, known for being slow-absorbing.

It’s a good source of protein to have as part of a meal replacement, or before bed.

Glutamine

Glutamine is an amino acid that’s thought to increase recovery and muscle growth, but research has shown no extra benefits alongside protein and BCAAs (2).

Who Takes It?

Athletes wanting assistance gaining weight will benefit from 100% Mass.

How to Take

Mix 4 scoops (200g) thoroughly with 750-1000mL water or milk, and consume either post-workout or as a meal replacement.

Side Effects

Excess protein intake can worsen an existing kidney or liver condition.

Maltodextrin is a high-GI source of carbohydrates. It may not be appropriate for diabetics in large quantities.

Pros

  • High-calorie formula makes it easier to gain weight
  • Fast and slow-absorbing proteins included
  • Multiple flavouring options available to suit everyone’s tastes.

Cons

  • The primary carbohydrate source is very high-GI, which isn’t optimal for health
  • Almost 30g of sugar per serve.

Conclusion

Although 100% Mass has a good dose of protein and a large amount of calories, the majority of these calories are from high-GI carbohydrates – namely sugar and maltodextrin.

It will definitely help with gaining weight, however may not be the healthiest or most effective way to do so, especially if you are looking for lean muscle gain.
